GUWAHATI, Nov 6: The CPI(M) today sent a letter to the AIUDF welcoming the letter sent to the like-minded parties by AIUDF president Maula Badruddin Ajmal for a grand alliance in Assam so as to prevent the BJP and the Congress from coming to power in Assam in 2016.
It was on October 29 this year that Ajmal sent a letter to the like-minded parties like the AGP, CPI, CPI(M), UPF, Ga Mukti Sangram Samiti, NCP and others to stitch a grand alliance in the State so as to prevent the BJP and the Congress from coming to power in Dispur in the forthcoming Assembly elections slated for 2016.
However, the letter from Ajmal did stir up a debate among the parties and political pundits in the State, and Ajmal had to face a drubbing from many parties. The situation was such that some of the parties stopped short of making their stand on the grand alliance clear before the media. In such a backdrop, the CPI(M) today sent a letter to Ajmal and welcomed his move. The Left party said that it would have a discussion in the party on the alliance thought of by Ajmal.
On its part, the AIUDF greeted the CPI(M) for its step.
