Create separate IT exemption jurisdiction for NE, Jaitley told

GUWAHATI, February 20: Former AGP MP Kumar Deepak Das has sent a missive to Union Fince Minister Arun Kumar Jaitley requesting the latter to withdraw the recent notification creating a new jurisdiction of Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemption) for the North Eastern States to Kolkata and Siliguri. Das has also requested the Union minister to create a separate directorate of income tax (exemption) for the North-eastern region. “The recent notification creating new jurisdiction of Commissioner Income Tax (Exemption) for the North Eastern States to Kolkata and Siliguri has created chock in the mind of the people in the Northeast,” the former MP said, and added: “…the notification shall cause great hardship to beneficiaries of the Charitable Trusts and NGOs of NER.”
