Cross-voting set to worsen strained Cong-AIUDF ties?

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 21: The strained relationship between the Congress and the AIUDF in Assam is set for another bout of trading charges, now on the issue of cross-voting in the just held Presidential poll.

In the just held presidential poll, the NDA candidate was supposed to get 88 votes in Assam. He, however, got 91 votes. Where the three extra votes came from? This question continues to haunt the leaders of the Congress and the AIUDF. They blame it on each other.

The Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia said: “The Congress had no record of cross-voting. The NDA candidate might have got the three extra votes from the AIUDF.”

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, on the other hand, said: “Three Congress MLAs are set to shift their loyalty to the BJP. The cross-voting might be just fulfilling the pre-condition set for them.”
