Dark 'VIP Road' in city!

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 13: Guwahati wears a bridal look whenever a mega festival or a sports extravaganza is hosted here. Improvisation takes place mainly on roads, flyovers and high structures. The road connecting Six Mile and rengi is no different. The street lights of the entire stretch of the road were working during the mami Brahmaputra festival. After the festival, the street lights mysteriously went off. People living nearby have to grope in the dark while coming out at night on the streets.
This important road that links Six Mile and rengi has a number of hospitals, community halls and marriage halls, besides residential complexes by its sides. This road –called as VIP Road – has nothing that can give justice to the me.   “Government agencies have dug the road to place water supply pipes. However, after placing pipes they have not renovated the road, leading vehicles to move one way. Traffic congestion becomes an issue when heavy motor vehicles ply on the road,” Ravi Kalita, a local resident, said. The situation sometimes turns so grim that pedestrians fall in drains through the open manholes. “With the street lights not working the road is very dark at some stretches. There is every risk of chain stchers and other anti- social elements committing crimes. Women can’t even venture out in the evening time,” Dijen Sarma, another local, said.
