DC asks tiol Highway Authority to clear drains

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 2: Kamrup(M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu today visited the Jorabat area of NH-37 and asked tiol Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to clear two choked drains by January, much ahead of the onset of the next monsoon.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by district chief executive officer of Disaster Magement Pulak Mahanta and officials of the NHAI and the Water Resources Department of the State. The Deputy Commissioner inspected the areas encroached upon illegally on either side of NH-37, illegal cutting of earth in the hills and red soil filling the drains. He asked the Revenue Circle Officer to file a case against those resorting to earth cutting in the area. The DC found the drain blocked at two spots. He asked the NHAI officials to clear the choked drains by January, before the onset of the monsoon.

It is worth mentioning here that the area is prone to water-logging every year as water that comes from Meghalaya inundates areas falling in Assam side of the inter-State border.
