DC's appeal to guard wall owners

GUWAHATI, July 19: Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner-cum-Disaster Magement Authority Chairman M Angamuthu today made it crystal clear through an order that in the event of the collapse of boundary walls/guard walls due to unscientific construction in the hills/foothills in the district leading to the loss of lives/property of neighbours the person constructing such structure/its promoters/owner of the campus will be held responsible. So much so that against such ‘offences’ crimil cases can also be registered against them.

In an order to be enforced immediately in the district, the DC said: “While erecting such guard walls or boundary walls, all scientific procedure has to be followed. In the event of collapse due to unscientific construction leading to loss of life or property of others, the owner of the plot, one who constructs such walls and their promoters will have to pay the compensation.” Through the order, the DC has also asked the residents of the district having such walls to go for repair if they have any structures that are fragile.
