'Dearth of intellectual thought in State'

GUWAHATI, Nov 6: The level of intellectual thought and the level of intelligentsia in the State are too low. This statement was made by Axom Xahitya Xabha president Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora in Guwahati Press Club on Friday.

Dr Bora, who was at the Press Club to attend a book release programme of Dr Jagdish Patgiri, said that the poor intellectual standard of the State is another reason behind the unsolved problems in the State. He said, "Our State is lagging behind in terms of intellectual thought and dialogue. Due  to the low level of intellectual thought, many problems of the State remain unsolved till date. The intellectuals of the State have failed to address the roots."

When asked for his reaction to returning of awards by writers, the Xabha president said, "Litterateurs have the right to decide their political ideology and inclition. Returning the awards they received is their persol decision. Xabha will make no comments on it." It may be mentioned that in his address during the book release, Dr Bora stressed the need to safeguard local dialects and scriptures.

In the programme two books of Dr Jagdish Patgiri  titled- 'The Philosophical Tradition of Assam' and  'Thinking & Reasoning' were released.

The program was attended by many dignitaries, including the president of Mishing Sahitya Sabha, Basanta Doley, litterateur Phanindra Kumar Dev Choudhury and Dhrubajyoti Saikia.
