Death of Assam’s friend condoled

GUWAHATI, March 20: The death of Kakchingtabam Sundar Gopal Sharma, a prominent person of the Manipuri community of Mandalay city in Myanmar and a great friend and well-wisher of Assam and Assamese people, was condoled at a meeting in the city on March 19. The meeting was organized by ‘Work Group on Historically Dispersed Assamese’. On the March 16, 2017, Sharma died in a tragic road traffic accident in Sagaing state of Myanmar. The speakers at the condolence meeting included former State Industries Minister Pradyut Bordoloi, jourlist Oim Sunil, Dr Satyakam Phukan, Binoy Kumar Sarma and Jyoti Das.They remembered Sharma for his selfless work for Assam and Assamese people. Late Kakchingtabam Sundar Gopal Sharma was a guardian figure for the historically-dispersed Assamese community of Mandalay city of Myanmar. He was also one of the main vectors in establishing the link between the Assamese people of Assam and Myanmar.
