Definition of Assamese by AAMJU

Guwahati, March 26: The people who came to Assam before March 25, 1971 should be defined as Assamese and they should be included in the tiol Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam, according to the All Assam Markazi Jamiat Ulama (AAMJU), Minority Parishad Assam (MPA) and Minority Right Preservation Committee Assam (MRPCA).
The three organizations claimed that since independence of the country on August 15, 1947, the minority people are suffering from various kinds of harassment in the me of language and citizenships. “Even members of these associations faced harassment at various times in the state especially in 1979, 1983 and 1985,” they said.
The three associations appealed to all the minority people to unite for a correct NRC update exercise so that the genuine citizens of the country are not harassed any more in the me of foreigners.
