GUWAHATI, Feb 17: The Asom Songrami Mancha (ASOM) staged dhar at Dighalipukhuripar in the city today in support of their demands, including legislation of an Act to protect the interests of street vendors and local traders. The Path Byobosayee Santha, Asom supported them.

The ASOM office-bearer Amitabh Barthakur said: “The GMC has evicted a large number of street vendors from different areas in the city. We condemn the incident. GMC is yet to pay the bills of the local contractors who were given the contract for cleaning the drains in the city. The system of online selling of various products has badly affected the local traders. The need of the hour is to ect a separate law so as to keep the interest of the local traders intact. The street vendors should be issued licenses and given separate vending zones in the city, besides clearing the pending bills of the GMC contractors.”
