Demand for Independent Physiotherapy Council

GUWAHATI, July 16: Extending unflinching support to the Indian Association of Physiotherapists' indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, the All Assam Physiotherapy Association, in collaboration with the Assam chapter of Indian Association of Physiotherapist, on Sunday carried out a peace march at Diphalipukhuri Park, demanding creation of an Independent Physiotherapy Council.

Participated in the peace march were the physiotherapists across the State as well as students of physiotherapy.

President of All Assam Physiotherapy Association RB Sonowal said: "Currently, there are around 65,000 physiotherapy professiols in India and 35, 000 students are currently pursuing the course. But, there is still no such central council of physiotherapy to look into its various facets. Hence, we demand the formation of an independent Council at the earliest."

He also said the W.H.O had declared Physiotherapy as an independent medical profession.
