GUWAHATI, January 22: The Deori Jajati 6th Schedule Demand Committee has demanded inclusion of the Deori Autonomous Council in the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India.

The Committee also demanded reservation of Majuli, Dhakuakha, Joi and four other legislative constituencies for ST candidates.

The Committee has submitted two memorandums to Prime Minister rendra Modi, citing these two demands.

The Committee stated that 18 lakh Deori people in the State have been facing the State government’s neglect for long. “Due to the government’s apathy, Deori people are lagging behind in many fields compared to other communities in the State,” stated the memorandum.

They have also urged the Central government to amend the Constitution of India to include the Deori Autonomous Council in the 6th Schedule of the Constitution in order to fulfil the aspiration of the Deori people.
