GUWAHATI, May 20: The Guwahati city district committee of the All Assam Deori Students' Union (AADSU) has demanded of the government to carve out a Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) constituency in Guwahati so as to ensure the political rights of Deoris living in the city.

AADSU's city district committee general secretary Hariprasad Deori today said that there are around 10,000 Deoris living in Guwahati. "Due to the absence of any DAC constituency in Guwahati, the Deoris living here are deprived of their due facilities and rights on various fronts. Before the forthcoming DAC elections, the number of constituencies of the council should be raised from the present 20 to 40," he said.

According to Deori, the scholarship being given to meritorious Deori students for higher education by the DAC has been largely anomalous. He warned the DAC of desisting itself from malpractices.

Deori demanded of the government of immediate completion of the building being constructed in memory of Bimbor Deori and construct a hostel for Deori students coming to Guwahati for higher education.
