Deshi Jagosthia Mancha team meets Hajela on NRC

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, August 22: A delegation led by Deshi Jagosthia Mancha, Assam working president Islamul Haque Mandal met State NRC coorditor Prateek Hajela recently in his office chamber and expressed their dissatisfaction over, what they said, the discrimition done towards Deshi community on NRC update. It was brought to the notice of the authority that the Deshi community is historically recognized and widely accepted as indigenous and ‘son of the soil’ and hence they are origil inhabitants of the State. “Although there was a clear provision of recording either of the three options – 1 (Origil Inhabitant), DV (Doubtful Voter) & DF (Declared Foreigner) in the remarks column of the report submitted by field verification teams, they refused to record Origil Inhabitant against the people of Deshi community and preferred to leave the column blank, which has created a sense of discrimition and fear in the minds of the people. Moreover, the clarification issued from the authority regarding the recording of Origil Inhabitant has not cited any reason as to why the field verification teams left such an important column blank or whether there was any specific instruction from the authority to do so,” the delegation told Hajela.

Hajela assured the delegation of all necessary cooperation to ensure that no person from Deshi community is left out in the updated NRC.
