Dhars continue ubated at Dispur Last Gate

GUWAHATI, Sept 12: Holding Kahi- bati (utensils) with their nimble fingers and twinkle eyes radiating grief, it appeared that the young minds were begging for a better future.

The students, along with their teachers, staged a demonstration at Dispur Last Gate, demanding the State Government to save the school from the clutches of darkness, as the school has not received any amount to support over the past five years. The school is also functioning from a temporary structure made of bamboo and corrugated iron sheets. 

Ekalavya Model Residential School at Dalbari of Baksa district, under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, was established in 2013 for ST students. The Ministry had sanctioned Rs 12 crore for the school.

The school magement committee of the school is currently facing hardships to meet the expenses of the children. Ekalavya Model Residential School is demanding immediate release of contingent funds.

Meanwhile, voicing concern over the murder of AMBSU president Lafiqual Islam Ahmed, the All BTC Minority Students’ Union demanded handing over the investigation of the killing to the CBI for an impartial investigation. In addition, the union has demanded that the government should initiate stringent steps to check all kinds of syndicates, including cow smuggling, for safety and security of lives and properties of common people of BTAD.

Putting forward a slew of demands, the All Assam Law Students’ Union has emphasized provincialisation of the non-provincilased law colleges and within this time frame government should provide fincial assistance to these colleges.

Two other organizations – the All Assam Goriya-Moriya Yuba-Chatra Parisahd and the Sadou Asom Onijukto Uchcha Prathamik Sadharon TET-Uttirno Prarthi Samiti also staged dhar.
