Diabetes awareness camp underway

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, July 15: A month-long diabetes and high blood pressure awareness camp has been underway at Hayat Hospital in the city from Saturday. With its 20 crore diabetics and high blood pressure patients, India is going to the world capital of diabetes. In Assam also, diabetes is rising at an alarming rate.
A diabetic runs the risk of high blood pressure, compounding the problem. When high blood is not kept under control in such patients, the risk of strokes and other problems are likely, said some of the noted doctors who took part at the programme.
The opening programme of the camp was chaired by Dr. Anjan Sakia, executive director of Hayat Hospital. It was opened by SBI’s Northeast GM PVSLA Murti. Retired GMCH professor Dr. Mihir Saikia and Assam Medical Council Registrar Prof. Bhawani Prasad Chakravarty were present at the programme.
