Directive to IWT Director on boats

GUWAHATI, Jan 17: The Kamrup(M) district administration has asked the Director of Inland Water Transport (IWT) to submit a report within 30 days on the condition of motor boats ferrying passengers and goods across the Brahmaputra.   

The administration said that time and again accidents like boat capsize, fire etc., happen because of negligence on the part of the owners of boats and officials of the department.  The administration also asked the department to see if the boat owners strictly adhere to the safety norms set for them or not, and report it to the administration. He has also been asked to inquire into the licenses and fitness of the boats ferrying passengers as well.
