In a statement issued to the press on Saturday, AAMSA president Baharul Islam said: “In the me of modernization of Madrassa education in the State the State Government is out to abolish this system of education. As its first step, the State Government abolished the Directorate of Madrassa Education in the State. It was followed by the abolition of Friday as a holiday in Madrassas in the State. It was a tradition for Madrassas to observe Friday as a holiday. The statement on Madrassa education made by the State Education Minister on the floor of the Assembly on Friday reeks of his political immaturity. His statement on dissimilarities between Assamese and Arabic in the appointment of teachers reeks of his political immaturity. It is unfortute and laden with envy, with a view to satisfy gpur.”
