Dispur tackling corruption with an iron hand: BJP

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 8: The BJP Assam Pradesh has said that the State government led by the party, as mentioned in its vision document, is tackling corruption with an iron hand with the intention of leaving legacy of corruption-free administration to the posterity.

Talking to newsmen at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan in the city today, BJP spokespersons Rupam Goswami, Manoj Baruah, Pabitra Margherita, Aparajita Bhuyan, former MLA Sushil Dutta, State BJYM president Diplu Ranjan Sarma, State BJP Minority Morcha president Mominul Aowal and others said: “The stand taken by the State Government against APSC chairman Rakesh Paul is a peerless incident in the history of Assam. It is easy to assure people of rooting out corruption, but materializing such an assurance is very difficult. However, the State Government is playing its part. The statement made by former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Rakesh Paul is not only laughable, but mysterious as well. Paul’s appointment from the post of notary to the APSC as its chairman is, indeed, mysterious. Even senior Congress leader Haren Das and many of his ilk in the party too resented the matter. Why didn’t all such leaders oppose this matter when the party was in power? This speaks of how accountable they are to the people of the State.”

The party demanded a thorough inquiry into the corruption.
