BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 30: The Assam Government will construct 3000 km rural roads in the State under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yoja (PMGSY) by March 31, 2018.

Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Thursday said the Centre has already sanctioned 8000 km roads under PMGSY for the project. Sources said the PWD minister in a meeting at Dispur on Thursday instructed the respective officials to do the needful to achieve the target.

“We are targeting to construct these rural roads by March 2018. However, there would be no compromise in quality. We have also told the contractors about this,” Suklabaidya told reporters after the meeting. Any contractors found neglecting to our instruction will face action, he added.
