GUWAHATI, Oct 5: In a significant development, Dispur is contemplating on examining afresh as to why the State Government in February 2016 kept in abeyance the inquiry against two police officers of the State for their alleged involvement into the Saradha Chit Fund scam.

In 2015 the State Vigilance and Anti-corruption Cell of the Police had sought permission from the State Home and Political Department for initiating regular inquiry against two IPS officers of the State – AP Rout and SN Singh – for their alleged involvement in the Saradha Chit Fund scam. However, in February 2016 the Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Political (Vigilance Cell) Department told the Vigilance and Anti-corruption Cell of the police: “...the State Government in Political (Vigilance Cell) has received representations on the matter from Shri AP AP Rout, IPS and Shri SN Singh, IPS and therefore, pending examition of the representations by the Government, the Regular inquiry initiated against Shri AP Rout and SN Singh may be kept in abeyance.”

Now the new dispensation at Dispur wants to examine the case afresh so as to know as to why the previous government kept the inquiry against the two IPS officers in abeyance.
