MIRZA, Feb 3: Building bridges do make a keyword in this world of multiplicity and diversity. Gauging this concept right the Centre for Media Studies of Dakshin Kamrup College (DKC), Mirza continues to celebrate the college week through ‘Explora: Sanjog Setu’. This year also, the college observed its college week through ‘Explora 2018: Sanjog Setu' from January 30 to February 1, 2018.

The college has been holding ‘Explora: Sanjog Setu' since 2016. Like previous years this year also the Centre organized ‘Explora’, an exhibition-cum-open stage programme for students during the college week. In this competitive world there are still students who do not want to judge their talents through competitions. In order to support and help such talented students the Centre for the first time organized Explora in 2016.

Dr. Phanindra Thakuria, the vice-principal of Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza, iugurated Explora’18. Different craftwork exhibition, photography exhibition, live painting along with other communicative tools representing culture and tradition of various tribes were displayed at the exhibition. Like previous years this year also the exhibition was under a Bakul tree in an open environment. The most interesting factor of Explora’18 was the display of the cover pages of the college magazine Dakshin Pat published till the previous year. Another interesting segment of Explora’18 was a bicycle rally – cycling for Explora, cycling for health. The rally was of 12 km. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Kalita, Principal of the college, iugurated the rally in the presence of Professor Arabinda Roy and other participants. “In the past three years Explora supported and helped the students to bring out their talents, besides giving a new dimension to the College Week of Dakshin Kamrup College. The activities of Centre for Media Studies are always unique and of great importance for one and all,” said Dr. Kalita. All the artistic works displayed in the exhibition were made up of household wastes, discarded leaves, paper, hay etc. Two former students of the college – Skyland N Sangma and Arb Pran Das – were the art directors of Explora’18. “We’re successful because of unity and hard work of our students. Listening to opinions of the students, their performances, attitude etc., I have come to know that breaking the stereotypes Explora has given something new to the students. In the coming days we’ve many other projects for students and grater south Kamrup community as well,” said Prof. Sailen Das, the Head of the Centre for Studies.

On the last day of Explora’18 Ibson Lal Baruah, renowned musician and famous singer Dikshu were present in their Musical adda (rendezvous) with students and teachers. Dikshu enthralled the audience with his numbers.  “This is a collective work for our community. CMS worked for the students and by the students,” assistant professor Joyjit Deka.
