Do AICC leaders get the jitters? They summon Gogoi and Dutta

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 20: Is the All India Congress Committee (AICC) frenetic with worry at the latest political developments in Assam? A slew of developments took place in no time in Assam – from the BPF-BPPF merger to the BJP-BPF poll alliance, immediately followed by the two successive mammoth rallies addressed by Prime Minister rendra Modi in the State yesterday?  A seemingly jittery AICC immediately summoned both Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta to Delhi just a day after Modi addressing two rallies in Assam.

Both Gogoi and Dutta have reached Delhi today. Talking to The Sentinel from Delhi over telephone, Dutta said: “AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi and AICC’s APCC in-charge Dr. CP Joshi are going to meet us at 10.30 am tomorrow.  The meeting will hinge on Assam Assembly elections and organization. We’ll invite Rahul Gandhi to pay another visit to the State. In fact, he was scheduled to pay a visit to Upper Assam sometime back. However, his busy schedule didn’t allow him to visit the State. So, we want to invite him afresh. We’ll also try our best to make him spend most of the time in Assam in the run-up to the Assembly elections in the State. Soniaji will also visit Assam during the poll campaign.” When asked if there will be any alliance with the AIUDF, Dutta said: “There’s no such possibility. We’re determined to go it alone in the Assembly elections. We’ll field candidates in all the 126 LACs in the State.”

Meanwhile, the AGP is till to take side with any of the two major parties, the BJP and the Congress. As tough, the party is weighing all options. Today the regiol party has been busy at a meeting on poll preparations and poll alliance.
