Dongora declared NE's first avoidable blindness-free village

SOPUR, May 25: Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati has declared Dongora village in the Sopur area on the outskirts of Guwahati as the Northeast's first avoidable blindness-free village. Holding a medical camp in the village today, Nethralaya's medical director Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee said: "There's is no blind people due to lack of treatment in the village. We'll keep this record up by extending facilities to the 539 people of 126 families in the village. We conducted eye camps in this village earlier also."
