GUWAHATI, Apr 2: “If you want to live in peace with all your democratic rights like freedom of speech, don’t cast your valuable vote in favour of the Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP),” appealed Hiren Gohain to the people of the state. Speaking at a public meeting at Lakhiram Bora Sadan in the city today, Gohain said: “Indian politics have taken a new turn since 2014. The BJP-led Central Government talked of the democratic rights till 2014, but it has been practicing anti-democratic activities after coming to power. The BJP is trying to rule the country with the directive of the RSS. The Modi government wants to demolish the factors that may impede foreign funding into various sectors in India. We, therefore, appeal to the people of the state not to vote for the BJP.” Udayaditya Bharali said: “We want pure democracy with pure patriotism. The BJP also loves the country, but their patriotism is aggressive and anti-democratic. The new economic policy of the BJP government will merge the Indian economy with intertiol economy, which is not good for our people. We, therefore, prefer not to vote for the BJP, instead to form an altertive party with pure patriotism and pure democracy. We appeal to all the people of the state to come forward to save our state.” The meeting was participated by 42 intellectuals of the state who signed a memorandum to appeal to the people of the state.
