Eagle's eye on immersion in Guwahati river ghats

GUWAHATI, Sept 30: Immersion of idols in various immersion ghats in Guwahati was started at 11 in the morning on Saturday under CCTV camera vigil and to continue till 12 mid night. Effort is on to complete the immersion on Saturday. If there are any left-outs, those will be immersed on Sunday at Pandu Ghat where the immersion process has been arranged for two days.
Immersion of idols took place in the city at Kasomari ghat, Pandu Ghat, Jaipur Ghat, Sopur, Goverdan Ghat, Khubakhar Pukhuri in Azara, Jyotikuchi Ghat and Bashistha Ghat. 
Guwahati DCP (Traffic) Amanjeet Kaur said: “We had a long-drawn plan for traffic magement in the city during the puja, especially on the day of Dashami. No idol-carrying vehicles were allowed to move on B Barooah Road from Ulubari to TC Point and GNB Road, and from TC Point to RBI Point. All Idol-laden vehicles from the Chandmari side were regulated at Guwahati Club Point and diverted via MC Road, FC Road and MG Road. There were 12 no-parking places.”
Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren th said: “CCTV cameras were installed at the immersion ghats for security reasons. No puja committee person is allowed to go beyond a limit from where the idols were carried and immersed by GMC workers. Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, Traffic police, City police, GMC and other departments have been engaged so as to avoid any accidents or untoward incidents. The Puja has been incident-free and we want the immersion should follow suit. If anybody drinks alcohol indoor, we have nothing to say. However, if anyone drinks and create uproar at public places we’ve our traffic personnel equipped with alcohol breath alysers. They won’t be spared.”
Till the time of writing this report, idols of 123 puja committees have already been immersed at Kasomari Ghat alone – 85 of them are of community puja committee and the rest of private pujas. Till mid night, Kasomari Ghat alone can emerge idols of around 300 puja committees against 261 last year.
