GUWAHATI, March 1: The District Disaster Magement Authority (DDMA), Kamrup (M) in association with Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA), conducted ward-level mock drills at Pandu College on February 28, 2017.
The basic objective of the mock drill is to build a participatory approach and involve the community in the disaster magement field. Mock Drill helps in testing the response capabilities of various response agencies like Civil Defense, Fire & Emergency Service, SDRF, NDRF, and Health Department along with the role of elected representatives of GMC and the Community.
The mock drill was held on Tuesday, at Pandu College based on a Mass Casualty Earthquake Scerio. During the drill, Deputy Commissioner Dr. M. Angamuthu, State Project Coorditor Rajib Prakash Barua, ADC & CEO, DDMA Pulak Mahanta and Pandu College Principal Dr. Jogesh Kakoty among the dignitaries were present. The college authority of Pandu College also participated in the drill. After completion of the drill, a lesson learnt session was also held where the areas of improvement regarding effective disaster response were discussed. In this discussion Asst Commandant NDRF S. Dwivedi, Deputy Controller Civil Defence J. Deka, Sr. Station Officer, F&ES R.C. Bhakat, Project Mager, ASDMA Dr. M.M. Irshad, Dr Mintumoni Sarma, Sunny Buragohain, from Doctors for You and H. Pathak, DIPRO, Kamrup(M) shared their experiences and observations before a huge gathering of community people, stakeholders, students and professors of the college, a press release said.
