Eight dacoits bbed

GUWAHATI, July 26: Paltan Bazar police arrested eight dacoits from two places in the city in the wee hours on Wednesday. The dacoits have been identified as Rubul Ali, Shyam Kumar Singh, Lalu alias Iusuf Ali, Gathiya alias Ajay Biswas, Dipak Kalita, Durga Devi, Rabi Ali and Raju Satmi.

The gang has nick mes of its members based on the very jobs they do. The very persons for pickpocket are med Mistry (here Gathiya and Shyam Kumar Singh) and those who create congestion in buses are called ‘Thekos’.

They target passengers who come to the city by night buses at four points in Paltan Bazar – Apsara, Jata Point, Nepali Mandir and near Bishal Market. Today five of them gang were arrested at Kachari Basti and the other three from Athgaon. On July 24 these eight dacoits looted Rs 1 lakh from a person.  Meanwhile, the recovery of a bike (AS01AP2507) that had been lifted a few months ago led to the arrest of Tilak Bora of gaon. Two other thieves – Shiva Rao and Govind Rao – were arrested by the police last night from the Serabbati area in the city.
