Elephant dies; buried in Anchang

GUWAHATI, June 11: At last the male elephant that had all along been struggling for life succumbed to its injuries last night.   

The elephant fell into a ditch near Anchang Reserve Forest on May 21, and forest personnel came to know it the very next day. The elephant stood up from the ditch with help from forest personnel only to die last night. It did sustain injuries in its legs. The elephant had to be tranquilized on June 8 for treatment.  The elephant was buried in Amchang Reserve forest today after the post-mortem of the carcass. The local people alleged that the elephant died of food scarcity.
