Emergency magement exercise in 14 GPs

GUWAHATI, June 12: District Disaster Magement Authority, Kamrup (Metro) conducted the Gaon Panchayat Emergency Magement Exercise (GPEMEx) in 14 GPs of 3 Revenue Circles under Kamrup Metro districts today.

The basic objective of the exercise was to build a participatory approach and involve the community in the disaster magement works, a press release said. The exercise highlighted the response capabilities of various responding agencies like the SDRF, NGOs, and grassroots level functiories. This was a part of the initiative of Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA), which has supported the conduct of day longGPEMEx in all 2202 Gaon Panchayats of Assam simultaneously on June 12, 2017.

The exercise in the 14 GPs started with a Prabhat Pheri wherein students of various schools and community participated with great enthusiasm. This was followed by various competitions among children like art competition, quiz competition, debate, extempore speech etc.  Public meetings on various topics like disaster preparedness, water body conservation, open space/green space preservation were also held in all the 14 GPs. Street plays were also conducted in all the GPs on Disaster Preparedness. Demonstration on fire safety, flood preparedness and first aid were conducted by SDRF and Health Service officials. Mock drill on earthquake and fire safety was the key highlight of the event. 7,000 participants comprising of students, teachers, PRI members, civil society organization, members of village land magement committees and people from the community were actively involved in the exercise in all the 14GP for making the event a grand success.
