Encroached land in tiol parks

Guwahati, April 5: The extent of encroachment in the tiol parks of the State came to light in the State Assembly on Thursday when AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam raised the issue in the House and State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma made her response.

According to the information revealed by Brahma, in the second, third and fifth additions to the Kaziranga tiol Park, there are 622 families that have encroached upon lands, with 221 families in possession of patta lands inside the three additions to the park. In the meri tiol Park, the encroachment is to the extent of 5 sq km out of a total area of 200 sq km. In the Mas tiol Park, 912 families have encroached upon 16.30 sq km, and though there had been some eviction drive, resettlement soon resumed. In the Dibru-Saikhowa tiol Park, a total of 608.73 hectares of land is under encroachment.
