Encroachment by NRL alleged

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Dec 26: The Deo Pahar Sangrakshit Bonchal Dabi Samiti (DPSBDS) has alleged that NRL encroached upon a big area of the Deo Pahar Reserve Forest (DPRF) in 2011 from the ‘no development zone’ area and started the construction of a golf course there. Talking to newsmen, Chandan Kumar Duara of DPSBDS said: “Even after an instruction from the tiol Green Authority (NGA) to dismantle the wall of the golf course so as to clear the elephant corridor, NRL authority has not taken any step as yet. Instead, they are trying to declare the whole situation a fake one. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has also been informed of the matter recently. Gogoi has instructed the start of the process of declaring all the 70 proposed reserve forests as reserved forests. We have submitted a memorandum in this regard to the CM and demanded completion of the process within February next. We demand the government to declare Deo Pahar as a wildlife sanctuary.”
