Ensure eye health for all: Mukhi

GUWAHATI, Dec 8: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said, “It becomes a moral responsibility for every individual ophthalmologist and the body of ophthalmologists to take up community eye care service as their priority to serve the society at large”. 

While speaking at a conference held on the occasion of Golden Jubilee ceremony of the Ophthalmological Society of Assam in a city hotel here this evening Prof Mukhi called upon the fraternity of ophthalmology to own the responsibility of directing their service for the welfare of the humanity.

The Governor said that, Golden Jubilee signifies 50 years of successful existence and and it is a matter of pride and prestige on the part of Ophthalmological Society of Assam for being able to work successfully for 50 long years. “This has been made possible because of your relentless academic pursuit which has lifted the body to intertiol level. I take this opportunity to convey my congratulations to everybody associated with it on this occasion”, the Governor added.   The members of the Ophthalmological Society of Assam have already shown their mettle in various tiol & Intertiol scientific forums. Today, Ophthalmological Society of Assam is a strong unit of members of All India Ophthalmological Society, the apex body of  ophthalmologists in the country.   Prof Mukhi said, ‘Vision for All’ is a mission globally pursued through various programmes to prevent blindness. In our country too, programmes  like ‘Vision 2020’ and ‘tiol Programme  for Control of Blindness’ are geared up with full vigour. At this juncture, it becomes a moral responsibility for every individual ophthalmologist and the body of ophthalmologists to take up community eye care service as their priority, a press release said.
