Eradicate child labour: DC

GUWAHATI, March 27: Kamrup (M) DC M Angamuthu, who is also the district chairman of tiol Child Labour Project (NCLP), today appealed to all stakeholders of the State to do away with the practice of child labour.

He said this while talking at a teacher training programme at Bishnu Nirmala Shishu Puthi Bharal in the city organized by the district administration and NCLP today. As many as ten NGOs have been imparting education to child labourers in the district. This programme was meant for making the teachers imparting education to child labourers aware of the Act against child labour and to bring awareness on the Act among the people.

East Guwahati MLA Siddhartha Bhattcharya, who was also present at the programme, said: “I’ve been observing the project. The role of the NGOs in bringing the children to mainstream is unlimited.”

Social Welfare Director SS Mikshi Sundaram assured those associated with the project of extending all help.

Kamrup(M) Development Commissioner Barli Sarma also laid stress on eradication of this social evil.

Teachers of as many as 54 schools were given training on child labour by Deputy Director of Labour Hiren Goswami, Labour Inspector Prasenjit Talukdar and Binjumoni Das from Child Protection Office.
