Eri, muga silk receive overwhelming response from intertiol buyers

GUWAHATI, July 6: Assam has come to the fore in projecting its rich and intricate fabric in the world map. This has ring true as Assam’s tapestry such as eri, muga silk have received overwhelming response from both intertiol and domestic visitors. The state has recently participated in a mega intertiol event “Textiles India 2017” held at Gandhi gar in Gujrat. The event was organized under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Textile. Assam participated as a partner state in the event. The state level apex society ARTFED, which was engaged by both the Handloom Textiles and Sericulture Department, represented on behalf of the State.

Around 2500 intertiol buyers and 1000 intertiol and domestic exhibitors participated in the textile event. Around 30 countries attended the event along with the developed countries like USA, UK, Chi, Japan, Australia, et al. Addressing a press meet in the city on Thursday Handloom and Textile Minister Ranjit Dutta, said, “It was a great endeavour by the government in providing a platform to showcase the textiles, handloom and handicrafts of the state and in establishing a linkage between intertiol and domestic buyers. We are elated that our textile, handloom and handcrafts have received a positive response from both domestic and intertiol buyers.” “This is also likely to create employment generation for us in the near future. Moreover, we have succeeded in exhibiting our rich products at such an event,” he said.
