'Eviction near Amchang related to smart city tag'

GUWAHATI, March 27: The people residing in the Amchang area in the city have alleged that the recent eviction drive in areas near the wildlife sanctuary was aimed at meeting the mandatory 30 per cent green area criterion to get Guwahati declared a smart city.

Talking newsmen in Guwahati on Tuesday Amchang Abhyaranya Datikakharia Sthai Jagusthio Bhumi Sangrakhyan Surakha Samity president Jayanta Phangsho said: “The faulty map of Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary being claimed by the State Forest Department came to the fore on the floor of the Assembly when revenue collected from the 37 revenue villages near the sanctuary was discussed. The sole aim of the recent eviction drive in the area is meeting the required percentage of green area for getting Guwahati declared a smart city.”
