Extortionist in police net

GUWAHATI, Oct 5: A youth, who had dared to make quick buck by sending an SMS to the persol secretary of state Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for extortion, is now in police net.

It was on October 2 when one Safiqul Ali, hailing from Kolgasia in Barpeta district, had sent an SMS to N Sarma, the PS of Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asking him to pay Rs 5 crore. The extortionist indirectly sought the cash from the minister as he had reportedly told the PS to tell the minister to pay the cash as demanded by him. The extortionist also wanted the money to be handed over to him at a tea estate in Biswath.

The PS did lodge an FIR in this connection at Dispur police station yesterday. The police today arrested Safiqul from the Bagorbori area in the city.

According to the police, Safiqul was using the SIM of his ex girl friend after their relations had broken.
