Facility to dispose carcass of pets with respect

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati, Oct 22: Putting an end to the pathos of pet lovers, Guwahati is to get first of its kind ‘burial ground for animals’. The plot of land for the burial ground has already been selected near Bora Gaon and the ground is expected to be ready by December this year.

Speaking to this reporter, GMC Veteriry Doctor  Pradip th said, “The plot of the burial land for animals at Bora Gaon near the garbage dumping ground has already been filized. We’ve kept the provision of both burial and burning for disposing of the carcass of animals. Abiding by all the rules of the Supreme Court, one can now bury their animals with love and respect in the burial ground. But, as we’ve very less space in comparison to a human graveyard, we’ve decided to take a scientific way to bury animals.”

“We will make rings and put dead bodies in the rings by adding preservatives like lime and salt. There will be a 30-foot-high structure for gas to pass. When it gets filled we will close it for two years. The bones that don’t decompose will be taken to our bone industry at Hojai for recycling,” th said, and added that if anybody does like the burial of their pets, they can bring firewood to the burial ground and cremate them.

The doctor further said, “For big animals we’ve a tural system. Also these days we can buy machines for burning. So, when necessary we might extend it for big animals. As of now, we’ve planned the burial ground for pet animals only.”
