From our Correspondent

DIMORIA, Jan 6: The agent of fair a price shop was caught red-handed while trying to sell 20 quintals of rice under Anpur Scheme to a private party. The administration has made the agent to distribute the rice among the target beneficiaries, but surprisingly stopped short of taking any action against her. Anpur rice is sold at Rs 3 a kg.  This incident happened at Belguri under Digaru Gaon Panchayat today. The agent of the fair the price shop (ADPAO/RL/G-27), Subhadra Das, got the approval of 67 quintals of Anpur rice for distribution among the target beneficiaries at Rs 3 a kg. She, however, took 47 quintals to her shop and left 20 quintals in the shop of Ram Surat at Digaru with a view to selling the commodity. Smelling a rat, the people of the locality informed the matter of the higher-ups in the administration. Soon the Circle Officer rushed to the spot, recovered the rice and asked the agent to sell the rice among the target beneficiaries at Rs 3 a kg. The local people were surprised to see that the Circle Officer took no action against the agent. A local youth, Tapan Boro, said: “This practice has been going on for a long time.” The local people demanded of the administration to cancel the license of the agent and take legal action against her.
