GUWAHATI, Jan 2: Many New Year revelers are in the habit of not following what ‘gas and alcohol don’t mix’ is intended to. On the intervening night of December 31, 2017 and January 1, 2018, 240 drink and drive cases, including two of accidents, were registered in Guwahati city. Guwahati Police did start a campaign against ‘drink and drive’ from December 25, 2017 and continued it till December 31, 2017. The drive was aimed at maintaining road safety. The cases registered have already been sent to the court and the licenses of the people involved have been seized. Talking to this reporter, Guwahati DCP (Traffic) Amanjeet Kaur said: “This year we’re planning a lot to change the traffic scerio in the city. We’re planning for breaking some new grounds on the traffic front. The existing traffic rules and regulations have some holes that need to be plugged. The condition of city roads also needs to be improved.” The DCP, however, claimed that the number of cases relating to drink and drive has come down on December 31, 2017 than what it was on the corresponding day the previous year.
