Farmers to get 10,134 tractors in phase 1: Bora

GUWAHATI, Oct 17: State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora has said that his department is going to distribute 10,134 tractors among farmers in the State under the Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unyan Yojo (CMSGUY) so as to double farmers’ income.

Addressed the media in Guwahati on Tuesday, Bora said: “A tractor will be given to each group comprising eight-ten farmers in every revenue villages in the State. We’ve received as many as 25,007 applications from as many famers’ groups in the State. No such application has been received from farmers’ groups of 7,030 revenue villages. As many as 10,134 applications have been received from as many revenue villages – one group from each village. In phase 1 these 10,134 villages are to get tractors and the rest of the groups will get later. The government is going to extend 70 per cent subsidies for tractors each of which will be priced not more than Rs 5.50 lakh. While 20 per cent of the amount will be met with bank loans, the remaining 10 per cent will have to be borne by the farmers’ groups themselves. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal is going to iugurate the scheme on December 10 this year.”
