F&CS owes  cooperative societies  Rs 33.64 crore

GUWAHATI, March 29: The State Food and Civil Supplies Department is still to pay over Rs 33.64 crore to the cooperative societies of the State as transportation cost of food items and commissions under the tiol Food Security Act (NFSA).

This fact has come to light from the revelations made by Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rihon Daimary while replying to a query from BJP’s Ashok Singal on the floor of the Assam Assembly on Thursday.

According to the information given by the minister, the department has sent its proposal to the Fince Department for the release of the amount which the department owes to the cooperative societies of the State in the form of transportation cost of food items and commissions.     

The tiol Food Security Act, 2013 came into effect in the State in 2015. From December 2015 to February 2018, according to information revealed by the minister, the department has released Rs 381.13 crore as transportation cost of food items and Rs 389.04 crore as commissions for the cooperative societies.
