Fire at Jorabat, property worth Rs 10 lakh damaged

DIMORIA, Oct 17: The blast of a cylinder led to a massive fire that damaged property worth Rs 10 lakh at Adarsha gar in the Jorabat area today. The incident took place in the house of one Raju Chetri. According to reports, there was a puja in Chetri’s house last night when eartern lamps were lit, and that kept burning till this morning. While Chetri came to Guwahati, his wife went to the house of a neighbour this morning when people show smoke bellowing from the house. After a while, there was blast of a cylinder, leading to a fire that charred as many as four rooms of the house. Soon the local people gathered there and made an attempt to douse the fire with water from the local water supply project, but failed to do much. Some fire tenders did arrive in the village but failed to reach the house that is located atop the hill. Chetri claimed that the loss of property would be around Rs 10 lakh.
