Five bigha made encroachment free in city

GUWAHATI, June 13: A team of Kamrup (M) district administration, led by Guwahati Revenue Circle Officer Lakshmindan Saharia, conducted an eviction drive at Rupgar area in the city today. The drive freed five bighas of government land from encroachers near Rupgar High School and Assam Government Construction Company (AGCC) office.

A bigha of the five bigha plot was today handed over to the Government of Aruchal Pradesh for the construction of its guest house. The Assam Govenrment had handed over one bigha of land at the site to Aruchal Pradesh which could not go ahead with their construction as the land was occupied by encroachers.

The land was encroached upon by a mahila samiti, a boys’ club and a mandir committee. As many as 15 bamboo-made houses with their roofs constructed with CI sheets were demolished in today’s eviction drive.
