Flash flood problem in city: CM’s letter to Gadkari

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, January 29: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he had requested Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari to provide help so that the State government can solve the artificial water logging problem in the city during the monsoon.  In a letter to Gadkari, Gogoi said that the Basistha River, which carries rain water out of the city during the monsoon, is the city’s main water carrying channel. The culvert made for the river near the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is only 3 meter in width, which needs to be widened to raise the water carrying capacity of the river during the rainy season, the letter added.
