Flood havoc at Dimoria, Pobitora animals huddle to highlands

DIMORIA, Sept 1: All is not well with the Dimoria area. The carcass of a female rhino was recovered from a beel in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary recently when the carcass of a wild buffalo was also found. Around 70 per cent of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is under water, and the animals have huddled together at highlands. If the water level keeps rising, the animals of the sanctuary will have little space to live on.

Villages like Kachutoli, Kolongparbasti, Dung-dang, Sopur, No. 1 Deosal, etc., near the wildlife sanctuary have been submerged. The surging water of the Brahmaputra has inundated dwelling houses and destroyed standing crops in the area.

The Samata-Pobitora road from Sopur has been closed for vehicular traffic. A truck skidded of the road while going on the submerged road last night.
