For Sonowal 'a promise made is a promise kept'!

GUWAHATI, Oct 7: So far so good! So far, for Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal it fits like a glove that ‘a promise made is a promise kept’.

After assuming the office of the Chief Minister, Sonowal had made a pledge to release the pension of at least 1,000 retired teachers by the 7th instant of every month. And today the State Pension Department released the pension of 1,013 retired teachers of the State.

The development came following a directive from State Education, Pension etc., Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In the past four months the Department has been able to release the pension of at least 1,000 retired teachers by the 7th instant of every month. In the past four months the pensions of as many as 4,163 retired teachers have been released – the break-up being 1,003 in June, 1,052 in July, 1,095 in August and 1,013 in September.

Sarma expressed his hope that the process would continue, and the pension of as many as 1,200 retired teachers would be released in next month.

The Minister further said that 11 more employees would be given appointment in the Pension Department so as to speed up the process of release of pension. He said that the advertisement process for the appointment has already been over. “After the appointment of 11 more employees, the department will be able to release the pension of 1,500 teachers each month,” he said.
