Foundation Day of State Museum celebrated - 22 Apr, 2017

GUWAHATI, April 21: The 78th foundation day of the Assam State Museum was celebrated today at the Kaklal Barua Auditorium, Assam State Museum, Guwahati.

Professor Sarit K. Chaudhuri, Director of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Mav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal attended the function as a key resource person. In his lecture he dwelled on the topic "Experiencing new Museum Movement in India: Issues and Concerns", and said that museums can become an institution of learning and can play a significant role in revitalizing the lost heritage which can have huge value of importance to the people.

VB Pyarelal, Additiol Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Cultural Affairs Department, who presided over the function, also delivered a short speech. The Additiol Chief Secretary elaborated on the topic of the resource person and stretched that museums should not be confined for objects of the past and corroborated the idea of linkages with other Institutions.

YS Wunglengton, Director of Museums, Assam while delivering the welcome speech at the very outset, apprised the key works of the Department which has reached 78th years since inception.

Later in the programme, two masterpiece paintings 'The Portrait of Dith Bezbarua' and 'Yatra - The Journey' and a calligraphy were unveiled. The bulletin of the Assam State Museum was also released in the function.
