Foundation stone laying makes essence of deception in State: KSUPA

GUWAHATI, Jan 5: The Krishak Sramik Unyan Parishad, Assam (KSUPA) feels that in the past 15-year rule by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Assam the laying of foundation stones has been essentially one of the basic elements of the politics of deception in Assam.

Talking to newsmen in the city today, KSUPA president Pradip Kalita said: “Over 3,000 foundation stones have been laid in the State by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet colleagues. Have all the schemes and projects seen light of the day? The reality is dismal! While laying a foundation stone, the Chief Minister of a cash-trapped State knows it very well that the very scheme or project he/she is iugurating won’t see light of the day. Yet he/she goes on laying such foundation stones at a fast pace just to keep the people in a false feeling of assured. This is a deception, and the Gogoi government in Assam definitely tops the list.”

“At a time when a large number of schemes and projects in the State failing to see light of the day due to cash crunch, the Chief Minister has made a large number of fresh announcements of schemes and projects, including creation of more subdivisions in the State on the New Year. This largesse from the cash-trapped Chief Minister is to woo the people whose votes in the coming Assembly elections are all he need to make it to Dispur for the fourth consecutive term. However, we want to remind the Chief Minister and his right-hand man in the Cabinet, Rakibul Hussain, that they they’re accountable to the people of the State for their 15-year rule of deception,” Kalita said, and added: “In fact, Rakibul Hussain is like Gogoi’s eldest son. This is why Gogoi has given the responsibility of running the State affair entirely to Rakibul. A stark reality that keeps staring at Gogoi is that if he goes ahead in the poll battle taking Rakibul along with him, he will have to end up with a big ‘0’. This is because, Rakibul has deceived around 26,552 job card holders in Samoguri LAC. Such corruption is common in every gaon panchayat in the State.”

Citing an example, Kalita said: “There has been a scheme to set up 300 cold storage facilities in the State so as to help farmers to store their products. However, not a single of the 300 cold storages has been set up in the State as yet. When will they set them up? Isn’t it deceiving the people, especially the farmers of the State? Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet colleagues do make a storehouse of falsehood.”

Kalita said that the Parishad is going to stage a 30-hour sit-in at Dighalipukhuripar from January 8 in protest against the State Government deceiving the people. “We also caution the BJP to stay away from creating confusion in the State. It should rather concentrate on the development of the State. We want floods and erosion be declared as a tiol problem and CBI probe into the Rs 5,552-crore MGNREGA scam. On February 15, we are going to stage protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi,” Kalita said.
