Four land grabbers arrested

DIMORIA, July 13: Sopur police on Thursday arrested four land grabbers for allegedly grabbing a plot of land at Karsia village in Panbari area under Sopur police station on the city outskirts.

The four arrested were identified as Bhakta Ram Boro, Biplab Bordoloi, Bishnu Boro and Golapi Boro of Sopur area. Bishnu Boro is a local BJP leader.

Sources said that arrested Bishnu Boro and Golapi Boro had sold their two bighas of land to Dambaru Boro and Kusum Talukdar in 1998 but subsequently the plot of was allegedly grabbed by Indian Air Force employee Bhakta Boro and local youth Biplab Bordoloi.

Locals had filed a public petition to the Circle Officer (CO) of the Sopur Revenue Circle in this regard and accordingly Circle Officer Dhrubajyoti Hazarika fixed a hearing of the case on Thursday.

During the during it came to the light that both Boro and Bordoloi in collusion with former land owners Bishnu Boro and Golapi Boro had grabbed the plot of land.

The Circle Officer subsequently filed a case at Sopur police station and on the basis of the complaint, Sopur police arrested them.
